I just watched the movie adaptation of Vonnegut's Mother Night, and I can't help but think this applies to people like Jones:"We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be." Even if he is just pretending and recants later, the damage done to discourse is already there. I can't really say that I care how much he's pretending versus how much he believes what he's saying, the effect is still giving gun nuts a platform to hang onto.
